A good poet

A good poet would be able to make you feel, smell, taste, hear, and see every word. make the touch of the rain on your skin as real as the book in your hands. They could make you smell the roses that are laying on the seat next to you, make the flavor of champagne wash across your tongue. A true poet could make you hear the bells to the church ringing hitting every note imaginable. Make you see the steps as you walk to the front of the church. But can a poet make you feel what’s in their hearts? Make you feel the joy as you sit in the rain watching the one you love walk up meeting you under the old oak tree you meet at every day, knowing nothing could prevent it? Could they make you feel the unimaginable happiness as he handed you the roses under that same tree, then got down on his knee? What about the feelings you had that night, drinking champagne in the honeymoon suite? What about the bells ringing… could that bring to heart those feelings when you had to go to the church, to see him one final time, and when you see the same white steps you walked on the day you said you would be together forever. And under the old oak tree, do you know the feelings? Is a poet just a panderer of words or a person who can convey the world and more? When words take your heart, are they still just words?
